When you compare the performance (specially in terms of UI responsiveness) with other keyboard launchers such as Launchy, you notice a bit of a difference.

It is not that SkyLight is very slow but that it feels slower than Launchy. I can see 3 areas where this is most noticeable:

1. The time that it takes for the SkyLight window to appear after you click the Keyboard shortcut is noticeably greater than for Launchy.

2. When you type something in SkyLight you can often notice that the keys that you type are not shown immediatly in SkyLight's window but a little bit later. This happens, even if you disable the search delay in the options.

3. Sometimes, you must click the ESC key twice to hide SkyLight. It seems that the first ESC key click is missed or ignored.

So I would like to suggest that you guys try to improve the performance of SkyLight. As sleek and cool and powerful as it is, in the end a keyboard launcher must be very responsive, specially if the goal is to make it better than Launchy, which feels very light weight in comparison.

I think that #1 and #3 should be improved as soon as possible. Regarding #2 it might be possible to "fix" this issue by simply giving the impression of speed rather than being actually faster. For instance, it seems that the showing of the keys in the SkyLight interface happens as the search results are updated.Perhaps if these two things where done asynchronously SkyLight would feel faster as you would see that it has recorded your keys and it is working on them.

Currently you can add folders to the Computer Items plugin in the Catalog but:

- You cannot select which types of files to add from the added folder (it defaults to what is set in the "File Types" dialog) nor which Folders can be excluded (which are set for the whole Catalog)
- You cannot select the depth of the subfolders within the added folder that must be added to the catalog

It would be great if you were able to select which files and folders to add on a per folder basis. You should also be able to say that the folder should simply use the default File Type list. You should also be able to specify a depth for the file search. Finally, you should be able to edit/configure the folders that you add to the Computer Items (currently you must remove them and add them again if you want to edit them).

Also, I wonder if SkyLight is smart enough to remove duplicates from the Catalog. I seem to get the same results many times if two folders are included twice in the catalog.

Ok, I want to run "remote desktop connection", so I type "rem". What is suggested is as first is some "REadMe.txt" (several of them), than "REmove Manager".
So I continue typing with "remot". What is suggested is "REMOve The divx bundle". Which still not, what I've been searching for...
I believe, that default order of suggestions should be:
1. *M*O*S*T* often used items containing typed letters. (Used items should be accented and suggested asap.)
2. YOUR* word.
3. *YOUR* word.
4. " Y"*" O"*" U"*" R" word. (So in my case even usage of "rdp" string would be quite high.
4. "*Y*O*U*R*" word. (So this would be a last resoirt search.)

There are a few UI improvements that I´d like to see. Most of them are related to the configuration dialogs, which in my opinion are a bit messy and confusing, although a few also affect the rest of the Skylight interface.

Since they are all kind of small and quite heterogeneous I thought that I would put them all together on the same "Idea".

1. Make the "Application" pane in the configuration options the first one, and possibly rename it to "General"
- Put there all the "important" configuration options, such as the default hotkey, and perhaps even the selected skin (if you ever support more skins in Skylight)
- You could also let the user select right there which perspective is open when you click the default hotkey. You should be able to select that you want to open the last open perspective or a particular perspective (currently the default hotkey always opens the last open perspective).

2. Merge the "UI" and "Composition" configuration panes.
- Both seem to be related to UI settings and "Composition" is a very confusing (term). I doubt a lot of people even know what it means!

3. It is a bit confusing to have separate Catalog, Perspectives and Plugins panes. They all seem very related and having them separate gives the impression of having parts of the same information scattered all over those three panes.
- In particular, the Catalog and Plugins panes are so related that perhaps they could be merged somehow? Each plugin which goes into the catalog could show the number of items that it is currently indexing right in the Catalog window, and you could have a link to the configuration from the plugin entry itself.
- The perspectives are something different, but it is a feature that is currently a bit hard to understand. Also, you could potentially disable all the "Catalog related" perspectives while having the corresponding plugins enabled (and using memory and processor resources), which would make no sense at all.

Other than these main things, there are some other even more minor things that you guys could look into:

- The help says that you must use Alt+Space to show the Skylight window even after you change the default hotkey to something else.
In the hotkey configuration panel there is a button to set the default hotkey to Alt-Tab. Why? This is quite confusing. Isn´t the default hotkey suposed to be Alt-Space?

- Let the user disable all the perspectives (or at least all which make sense to disable). Currently the Focus Items and Cursor Items cannot be disabled, which is weird.

- The Update buttons on the Computer catalog configuration panel make Skylight update its whole catalog, but since they are shown for each of the catalog entries, one would expect them to just update that particular catalog entry. A permanent "Update all" button at the bottom of that configuration pane should be shown and used to trigger a full update of all the catalog entries.

Plus I would like to end by suggesting a few more UI configuration options:
- Allow the user to select the "base" color of the UI.
It would be very cool to be able to select a different "base color" to make the Full Skin UI better match your Windows Theme. The current light gray color is nice but does not match well with some of the darker "Royale" windows themes.

- Add an option to only show the 3rd pane when necessary
There is no need to show the 3rd pane for many actions (such as open item, etc).
